There's an interesting situation brewing in Chicago's backfield. Rookie Jeremy Langford has impressed over the last two weeks in place of veteran running back Matt Forte, but Forte is due back sooner than later after hurting his MCL in Week 8. In fact, Forte's already been practicing.
What are the Bears going to do when Forte is fully healthy? Will they simply hand the every-down work to Forte? Or will they tell the 30-year-old to take a seat and let Langford, the rusher of the future, take off in the here and now? Or -- worse yet -- will they split the workload between the two of them?
Bears coach John Fox called his running back situation "tricky" but the hunch is Forte will be back in the saddle with Langford spelling him for as many as 10 touches per game. Leaning on veteran players is all part of Fox's typical history when it comes to things like this.
If that's how this goes down, then the Fantasy owners who have enjoyed Langford's stats the last two weeks will be left high and dry. Those owners who had to sit Forte will benefit since he'll be back. And if somehow the Bears end up splitting work between Forte and Langford, then everyone loses because neither will deliver monster stats.
With trade deadlines fast approaching, owners are forced to play hot potato with Bears running backs. What's a fair price to acquire Langford if you have Forte? You shouldn't overpay because the second Forte is starting, Langford turns into chopped liver. Then again, Langford proved to be a dynamite player -- shouldn't that count for something?
With the clock ticking until his value bottoms out (if it bottoms out), here are some trades being mulled over involving Langford.
Jeremy Langford for John Brown: If you base this over each of their last two games, you'd be nuts to trade Langford. But if you base it on Langford's likely drop in playing time, you'd be nuts to trade Brown. It's almost too much to pony up for Langford if you're just handcuffing him for Forte.
Jeremy Langford for Chris Johnson: Look, if Forte were out for the season then the Langford side would be winning. But Forte's return caps what Langford's rest-of-season expectations could be. Landing a running back who should keep getting work the rest of the way for Langford is a steal.
Jeremy Langford for Danny Amendola: Even Amendola seems like too much to pay for Langford. Maybe if Julian Edelman had never gotten hurt, but with Amendola's role growing, why would anyone ship him away for a running back whose best 2015 days could be behind him?
Jeremy Langford for Jeremy Maclin: Put yourself in the situation where you have Langford but you can't get Forte. Maclin is at least someone who can help diversify your roster and potentially start for you the rest of the way. Can we say the same for Langford?
Jeremy Langford & Julio Jones for Rob Gronkowski: Could this be an overpay for Gronk, or is this effectively Jones straight up for Gronkowski? It all swings on how Langford holds up the rest of the way.
What are the Trade Values? The chart is designed to help guide you in making fair trades in your standard-scoring or PPR leagues. The values assigned to the players below are a long-term measurement of their Fantasy value. By adding two players' values you could determine what one player you should be able to get in return. This list should also work as a "Rest of Season" rankings. Also, any player not on the chart should be considered valued at no more than three points.
